Rush is when potential members learn more about a fraternity, the brothers of a fraternity, and the Greek community in general. Rush is a time to voice your questions and concerns and to meet people who share your common interests and goals. Formal Rush occurs twice a year at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. For more general rush information, check out the Georgia Tech Greek System website.
Why join ATO at Georgia Tech?
Intramurals
Our intramural program at Georgia Tech is consistently among the top fraternities on campus. We participate in all intramural sports each year. We have taken home the title in Fraternity Basketball the last four years, finishing second in the overall school competition this past year. We finished third in Outdoor Soccer last year and are looking to win the championship this coming year. We also excel in many other sports including Softball, Flag Football, Dodge Ball, and Indoor Soccer. We also compete in many Co-Rec sports such soccer, dodge ball, basketball, and softball. We have won Co-Rec soccer the last two years.
Academics
Alpha Tau Omega strongly values the importance of academics at Georgia Tech, as it is the single reason many of us have come here. Our fraternity attempts to help brothers with their school work each year by getting tutors weekly at the house, as well as having other sources which help prepare for their classes. Recently, our alumni paid for new study rooms including computers, internet connections, multiple desks, conference table, and a house network printer. Our average house GPA over the past years has been consistently above the AMA, and in top 10 fraternities on campus. We have been recognized by IFC for having the best new scholarship program, and we give out over $10,000 every year in scholarships to brothers.
Social Events
In order to balance the academic rigors of Tech, social events are a large aspect of Alpha Tau Omega’s life. ATO’s annual Hawaiian Party is by far the largest fraternity party on campus, and our yearly social budget exceeds any other fraternity on campus. Last year, over 3000 students attended a weekend full of volleyball games, hot tubs, pool, pig roast, and Southern Rock, Country, and Reggae cover bands. We are looking to make this party even larger and more exciting this year!
We also have an annual Mountain Semiformal and Formal in cities such Nashville, Charleston, Savannah, and Myrtle Beach. We continually have a number of band parties, sorority mixers, and date nights year round with sororities at Tech, Emory, and University of Georgia. During football and basketball seasons, we enjoy hosting Game Day events with alumni, parents, and friends.
Leadership/Philanthropy
Alpha Tau Omega is involved in many organizations on campus. Some of the organizations that ATO’s participated in this year include IFC Exec Board, IFC Judicial Board, FASET, Student Center Programs Board, Ambassadors, Connect with Tech, Georgia Tech Career Fair, Student Center Advisory Board, GT Club Lacrosse and Soccer, and the Capital Campaign Board just to name a few.
We annually participate and raise money for American Red Cross, UNICEF, and Atlanta Food Bank. Additionally, we have worked on multiple projects for Habitat for Humanity. We have organized Georgia Tech’s largest Tsunami Relief effort by hosting “Tsunami Rock,” a benefit concert that raised money for victims. This past year, we teamed with the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority to raise the most money on campus for Relay for Life.
Alumni
Alpha Tau Omega’s alumni support is by far the strongest on campus. Our rich history of alumni has allowed us to have a meaningful influence each year. Due to our alumni support, each year the brothers and pledges receive over $10,000 in scholarships. We also have an annual Incoming Freshmen Scholarship which we give 2 scholarships for $500 each. Finally, on a yearly basis, certain positions in the house such as President, Treasurer, House Manager, Kitchen Manager, etc. receive a total of over $50,000 in compensation on their dues. All of these contributions could not be possible without our alumni support. See the alumni page for more information on our alumni.
